CHATHAM, NJ - Mike Lloyd, manager of Gabriella's Homemade Ice Cream, can't donate blood himself because of his medical condition. But he makes sure that others have a chance every year when he holds a Blood Drive in front of his store on Main Street. The drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 29.
I wanted to do something and my doctor told me to do a blood drive," Lloyd said. "We started doing it six years ago and it's been very successful. We have the donor bus right out front in two parking spaces."
This year, as part of the Super Community Drive, each donor will receive a Super Bowl wristband and a chance to wini two tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII set for Feb. 4 at MetLife Stadium.
"When they do these blood drives it goes to a bank and then it's decided where it needs to go," Lloyd said. "I'm just glad we can do it because I'm not allowed to give blood."
