NEWARK, NJ - Multiple groups collaborated to bring toys to hundreds of mostly local children this past Saturday at Essex County College.
Joi’s Angels, an East Orange-based organization founded by Mark and Joi Smith, sponsored a Christmas carnival in the college’s gym, while a non-profit known as Christmas Is For Children distributed donated toys to pre-schoolers at the nearby Childhood Development Center.
Donated cosmetic and hygiene products, shoes and other items were given to about 3,000 people at the annual Christmas Carnival.
“This was a true collaboration between the college and these two wonderful organizations,” said Dean of Student Affairs Keith Kirkland. “It was heartwarming to see the eyes of so many children light up our gymnasium.
“I want to thank everyone who participated in these two programs. Events such as these clearly show what we can do working together.”
Omega Psi Phi - Eta Pi Chapter from Montclair was among several of the sponsors and donated 35 bicycles. Bello’s Restaurant and 7-Eleven also donated food for the holiday event.
Christmas For Children, based in Basking Ridge, gave three toys to about 50 pre-schoolers so that they would receive something wanted, a needed item and an educational toy.
