On December 9th, Dr. Bernard F. Bragen Jr. officially joined Edison Township school district as its next superintendent. Before coming to Edison, Dr. Bragen served as the President of the Monmouth County Superintendents’ Roundtable. He holds a master’s and doctorate degree in educational leadership. He also holds a master’s degree in special education. He has served in Edison previously as a Vice-Principal of James Madison Intermediate School and Assistant Principal at John P. Stevens High School. His contract will end on June 30th, 2023.

Edison school district had been without a permanent superintendent since Dr. Richard O’Malley left the district in June 2018 after furnishing his resignation in April of that year. It is expected that the appointment of Dr. Bragen will bring the stability to the district.

In an opening letter to parents sent soon after commencing his tenure, he said he hopes to engage the “entire school community in continuing to provide superlative educational programs.” He further said, “this task cannot be achieved in isolation and requires the purposeful collaboration of all stakeholders.” His letter encouraged everyone to “participate to the greatest extent possible in this collaborative endeavor.”
