CRANFORD - Accompanied by family, friends, and his coaches, Drew Patterson signed his national letter of intent to play soccer at Marist College in New York.

Patterson explained his excitement for his future at the college and what he look's forward to most.

"I'm excited for the competition they play, said Patterson. "They play in a tough conference and are consistently ranked as a top 50 or 60 team. I just want to be playing against the best people I can play against."

Patterson also mentioned that he loved the feel of the campus and how it overlooks the Hudson River.

This past season, the Cranford boys soccer team finished 8-12 and lost in the first round of the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament. Patterson enjoyed a strong season leading the team in goals (12) and assists (7). Though a disappointing finish, Patterson said it was his favorite year.

"It was just fun. We had 17 seniors on the team," he said. "Every practice and every game was just having fun with my friends."

Patterson knows that things wont come as easy at the collegiate level since he can potentially be playing against athletes in their 20's.

"I'm going to be playing against grown men," said Patterson. "In high school, everyone is still maturing. But the seniors in college, they're full-grown men, so I'll have to adapt to the physicality."
