NEW BRUNSWICK,NJ - Police on Monday are searching for a driver who fatally struck a 31-year-old pedestrian on Route 1 in Woodbridge and fled the scene, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said in a statement.
John Kukuch, of Woodbridge was struck and fatally injured about 1:23 a.m. on Route 1 south, just south of the exit for Route 35, Carey said in a joint statement with Woodbridge police Director Robert Hubner.
They said Woodbridge Officer Joseph Angelo of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Don Heck of the prosecutor’s office determined the driver struck the victim near the Clover Leaf Cemetery, and continued driving.
The Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy Monday afternoon.
Investigators believe the vehicle sustained damage to the front-end passenger side.
