SPARTA, NJ-A Sparta man escaped serious injury after he was entrapped in his vehicle after crashing it while under the influence of alcohol early Saturday morning. At 2:33 am on Feb 1, Sparta Police were dispatched to Sparta Avenue near the intersection of Fox Run Road to investigate the incident.
The investigation conducted by Officer Adam Carbery revealed 23-year-old Remington C. Vokoun was operating his 1992 Toyota Camry south on Sparta Avenue at a high rate of speed, when he lost control. The vehicle swerved to the right, left the roadway striking several trees and then a large boulder where it came to a final rest.
Vokoun was bleeding from lacerations to his face and head. It was later determined by medical personnel that he had also suffered a broken ankle. Vokoun at the scene could not explain how he lost control of his vehicle. However, he did admit to the officer that he had consumed at least “10 beers.”
He was transported by the Sparta First Aid Squad to the Morristown Medical Center where he was treated for injuries and a blood sample was obtained. He was later released. Vokoun was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain a Single Lane of Travel and Failure to Have Liability Insurance. Vokoun has a first appearance in Sparta Municipal Court on February 13, at 8:30 am to answer to the charges. Sgt. Jeffrey Mase assisted with the investigation. Vokoun’s badly damaged vehicle was removed from the scene by Blessing’s Towing Service of Sparta.
