The car struck the curb on Main Street, crossed the center line and struck a car waiting in traffic. The car then spun around, struck the same vehicle again and then struck another car waiting in traffic. No injuries were reported and the Leach vehicle and one of the two cars he struck were towed from the scene.

In addition to the DWI charges mentioned, Leach was charged with failure to keep right, corrective lenses required, and unsafe tires. He was charged and released to a family member.

On Sept. 4 at 1:09 p.m., Sergeant Michael Mahoney investigated an accident on Watchung Avenue involving a bicyclist and a car.

The 16-year-old bicyclist from Summit was traveling east on Watchung Avenue when he struck the rear of a car that was also traveling east and in the process of turning into the Bottle King store parkng lot. The car was a 2013 Toyota driven by Susan Yarad, 38, of Summit.

The bicyclist was wearing a helmet and suffered a head laceration and was treated by the Chatham Emergency Squad and transported to Morristown Medical Center.

The bicyclist was issued a summons for operating his bicycle in a careless manner. The NJ motor vehicle code states that bicycles operated on public roadways are subject to the same duties and responsibilities as the driver of a motor vehicle.
