TRENTON, NJ - New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy today announced that districts across the state may begin a hybrid format of instruction that involves students returning to the school buildings for in-person instruction.  "We are fully committed to getting this right," said Murphy.

Dr. Victor Valeski, East Brunswick Superintendent of Schools, was one of two district leaders to present the rollout of the plan devised by the East Brunswick Re-Entry Team which was sent district-wide last week.

Valeski focused on six points of safety and effective use of resources involved in the development of the township's plan.  Valeski said that the district conducted a "comprehensive re-evaluation" of all aspects of the education program.  Valeski, drawing from the plan submitted to parents and staff in the township, spoke about the following areas of focus when addressing the re-visioning of schooling during the pandemic:

*An analysis of the spaces used for teaching, learning, gathering, and transporting students

*The placement and organization of instruction during the school day

*The medical, social, and emotional needs of all involved in the educational program

*The use of effective communication among stakeholders

*Environmental safety

*Personal security

All elements factored into the plan, but Valeski noted that safety concerns were dominant in decision-making.  He then announced that the East Brunswick Public Schools "will be able to meet the health and safety guidelines" laid out in the statewide plan.

"I am confident that the hybrid plan will allow quality education for all students," said Valeski.

He also described "sibling alignment" that would schedule students in the same family for in-school instruction on the same day to make life easier for parents to schedule their families' lives.  Valeski then thanked Murphy for the additional funding that was sent to the district to support educational technology that ensures all students access to instruction.
