East Meets West Brunch

March 2, 2014 at 10:38 PM

EAST ORANGE, NJ - On December 14, 2013 a newly formed East Orange based charity, Civic Cares Community Foundation and the West Orange based organization, Men Make A Difference entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to work cooperatively to bring systemic change to their respective towns through unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. This MOA is expected to evolve into a movement.

The two groups will come together again for a Unity (East Meets West) Brunch at Calvary Roseville United Methodist Church in East Orange on March 15, 2014 10AM - 1:00PM. Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James will be the guest speaker for the event.

“Our organization was created for men to be empowered in their families, their communities and their personal development,” said John Blanton, founder of Men Make a Difference.  “We envision men connecting from the North, South, East and West. It’s time to stop talking and now is the time to execute an action plan.”

Civic Cares Community Foundation will manage funds donated to various Community Trusts to provide the necessary capital to aggressively address many of the entrenched problems plaguing our localities. These trust funds will be reallocated as grants to our local non-profit partners and as small business loans to emerging entrepreneurs.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
