EAST ORNGE, NJ - Did you know that a woman is beaten every 15 seconds? Recently, there has been an increasing trend in our city of murdered women by their intimate or domestic partners.
Five months ago, Fatoumata Owoseni, 26, was murdered by her husband on South Munn Avenue. The woman was nine months pregnant at the time of her death. Six months earlier, East Orange Campus High prom queen, Aquilla Flood was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend in her bedroom and just this year, a woman was found dead in her home on the 300 block of Park Avenue.
The Aquilla Flood Healthy Alliance Joint Venture is a collaborative effort of East Orange residents, City Hall and the Board of Education to educate and protect our most vulnerable citizens from Intimate Partner Violence more commonly known as Domestic Violence.
This joint venture calls for City Hall and the Board of Education to join in the battle by raising citywide awareness of intimate partner violence through a Domestic Violence Taskforce and the adoption of a teen dating violence curriculum for students from grades 6 -12.
