EDISON, NJ - The Alternative Press of Edison begins its series of profiles of this year's Board of Education candidates in Edison.
This evening’s profile is of Dr. Chang-Hui Shen, running for his first term for the Edison Board of Education.
Dr. Chang-Hui Shen is an educator and the father of two students in the Edison school system. Currently he is a professor and the Deputy Chair of the Biology Department at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York.
Dr. Shen received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Edinburgh, UK. He joined the National Institutes of Health as a research scientist in 1998 after receiving his doctorate degree. Subsequently, he was recruited to the City University of New York as a professor in 2002. He became tenured professor in 2008.
Dr. Shen has been the leading author for more than 50 research articles, abstracts, and books during his career. His research is supported by National Institute of Health and National Science Foundation. He also has personally trained more than 40 students in the laboratory in the past 10 years. The majority of his students to date have continued their studies at graduate school, medical school or a health-related professional school.
