Edison Township Garbage Trucks Destroyed in Fire

EDISON, NJ – Around 10:30 a.m. a Township of Edison garbage truck caught fire at the township garage on New Durham Road on Wednesday. The garbage truck was fully engulfed in flames with a second truck burning next to the building minutes later. 

Edison Fire Department Engines 4 and 6 initially responded along with Command Car 8. Truck 1 was requested for addition support and Rescue 4 and Engine 2 where dispatched due to the close proximity to the garage.

Firefighters encountered water problems on the scene but managed to extinguish the fire despite the dead hydrants.

Fire Department officials requested the Middlesex County HAZMAT respond for approximately 20 gallons of spilled diesel fuel related to the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as are the dead fire hydrants.
