OLEAN, NY — An electrical problem caused a fire that caused an estimated $45,000 in damages at a home at 120 S. Second St. Wednesday, according to a news release from the City of Olean Fire Department. No one was injured.

When firefighters arrived at 4:23 p.m., they found heavy smoke, and all occupants were out of the building, according to the press release.

Crews extinguished the fire, which was deemed under control at 5 p.m. Fire crews rescued one cat from the fire, but another cat died.

The City of Olean Fire Investigation Team determined the cause of the fire to be electrical and that it originated in the pantry area of the first floor of the 21/2 storey wood frame structure.
