MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new apartment building at 1701 Springfield Ave. was held on Saturday, Sept. 12. The 30-unit apartment building is located directly across the street from the Hilton branch of the Maplewood Library.
Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca thanked the developers “for building this great addition to the Springfield Avenue area and the town in general, we are looking forward to it’s being full and becoming another vibrant part of the community.”
David Checchio, General Counsel of Elite Properties, said that the building is their fourth property in Maplewood. The three buildings that Elite Properties already has are at Maplewood Crossing, which is located next to DeHart Park.
Checchio said that Elite decided to develop in Maplewood because, as he put it, "it’s a good town," adding that the people in Maplewood are really engaged in the community, are supportive, active and tend to stay that way, and that involved residents is what makes a town a good one.
Checchio also thanked Maplewood Township officials and the Springfield Avenue Partnership for their help and support of the project.
The apartment building has 30 one- and two-bedroom apartments, of which three of the 2-bedroom units are designated for affordable housing. The units, according to information from Elite Properties, “offer gourmet kitchens with stainless steel suites, large granite countertops, walk-in closets, private terraces, central heat/air conditioning, washer/dryers in each home and so much more."
in addition to the owners and their families, the grand opening was attended by Father James Worth of St. Joseph Catholic Church,who blessed the new property, DeLuca, Maplewood Committee Member Dean Dafis, Julie Doran, Executive Director of the Springfield Avenue Partnership (SAP), as well as SAP board members.
"I'm very happy to have Elite a member of the Springfield Avenue community," said Doran. "Their investment here will have a positive impact on the business corridor, and I look forward to working with them in the future."
Online listings for apartments in the development include a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit for $3,000/month and a 1-bedroom, 1-bath unit for $2,300/month.
