UNION, NJ – An Elizabeth man has been arrested for vehicular homicide in the death of his daughter from Union as a result of a fatal crash that killed that daughter and seriously injured another daughter, according to a State Police social media post.
State Police say Madelynn Rizzo, 9, of Union was killed on Sunday, November, 25, when her father, Marcelo Rizzo, driving a Ford Focus on I-295 in Mount Laurel, struck a vehicle, went off the right side of the road, and struck several trees.
Marcelo Rizzo and another daughter Juliana Rizzo, 8, also of Union, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Cooper Medical Center. Madelynn Rizzo was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to the State Police statement, detectives determined that Marcelo Rizzo was driving under the influence and operating his vehicle erratically when he struck a vehicle in the center lane and went off the road.
State Police say Marcelo Rizzo was charged with vehicular homicide, assault by auto, endangering the welfare of a child, and DWI. He was lodged at Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing
Charges are mere accusations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
