ELIZABETH, NJ - Mario Rodrigues, purchasing agent for Elizabeth Public Schools (EPS), held a public bid opening on Facebook live.

EPS has been holding the bid openings virtually since the start of the social distancing order. Rodrigues presents the bid along with Donald Sheehy, EPS network administrator and Elizabeth Antuna, EPS purchasing specialist. Three projects were open for bidding during this opening: small kitchen equipment and food service, armored car services for food services, and paper products.

There were no bids placed on the armored car services so this project will have to be re-bid.

“We received a letter from Brinks Inc. indicating that at this time they were unable to submit a proposal response due to the bid bond and performance bond requirements,” said Rodrigues.

A bid bond is a guarantee that, should a contractor’s bid be successful, they will complete their services for the amount that was presented in the bid. Similarly, a performance bond is an insurance payment that the project is completed satisfactorily.

For the small kitchen equipment project EPS only received one bid from Sam Tell and Son inc. in Farmingdale, N.Y. for  $41,953.39.

Four contractors submitted for the paper products bid. Appco Paper and Plastic Corporation in Island Park, N.Y. bid $39,780.00; Central Poly-Bag Corp. in Linden NJ bid $35,000 and United Sales USA Corp. in Brooklyn NY bid $38,580.
