FAIRFIELD, NJ – More than 3 million dollars in federal grants were awarded to three New Jersey airports for improvements including the Essex County Airport in Fairfield, according to www.northjersey.com.
The Transportation Department grants were announced by Sens. Robert Menendez and Cory Booker on Friday, August 1.
The Essex County Airport in Fairfield will receive $200,000 toward the removal of obstructions on two runways.
Newark Liberty International Airport was the recipient of the largest grant at $3.4 million in order to build a new apron to provide additional parking for aircrafts.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is projected to use the grant money to demolish three buildings, and for the paving of aircraft and vehicle parking.
Atlantic City International Airport will recieve $39,000 to update its master plan to identify future needs.
