Essex County Association of Chiefs of Police Seeks Runners for Saturday’s 5K Chief's Challenge

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - To enhance community building and promote fitness, the Association of Chiefs of Police, Essex County, will be hosting their first 5K race on Saturday. The 5K Chief's Challenge will take place at the Fairfield Community Pool Complex, located at 306 Big Piece Road, Fairfield.

Schedule
The race is considered “Flat and Fast.” The schedule for Saturday morning is as follows:
  • 8 am. to 9:45 a.m. 
    Registration and race packet pick up 
     
  • 10 a.m.
    5K starts
     
  • 11:30 a.m.
    Award ceremony
Awards
  • Plaques
    Awarded to both male and female runners who place first, second and third overall in the race
     
  • Medals
    Awarded to both male and female runners who place first, second and third in their age group’s category
     
  • Award
    Awarded to those runners, both male and female, who are First Responders and who place first, second and third in this category
     
  • Prizes
    One 5K runner will win an ultimate Brooklyn Nets Game package which will include four tickets and other Brooklyn Nets items. 

"We are looking forward to a great event on Saturday and want to get the word out that all runners are welcome, not just those in law enforcement," stated the Association's First Vice President and North Caldwell Police Chief Mark Deuer. "This is the first year we're doing this and our hope is that it will bring the communities together while also promoting health and fitness."  

Deuer, who is an avid runner himself, will be participating and is hoping to bring home the gold in the fastest first responders contest time.

1. Start by going west on Big Piece Road
2. Turn left on Long Acres Road
3. Turn left on Hollywood Avenue
4. Turn left on Big Piece Road
5. Turn right on Briarwood Drive
6. Turn left on Old Country Road
7. Turn left on Bryn Mawr Way
8. Turn right  on Big Piece Road
9. Finish at the Fairfield Community Pool Complex

Registration and Fees
Registration for the 5K will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pre-registration at a discounted rate is available until Wednesday, Oct. 9. All registrants will receive t-shirts.

  • First Responders 
    In addition to filling out the general race registration, First Responders will need to also identify themselves to be considered for the first responders award contest. The specific first responder registration form is found online here

Sanctioned Track and Field Event
The race is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field organization.
