MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair police have located a suspect accused of attempting to give an 11-year-old girl a ride, according to officials.

On Jan. 2 around 7 a.m., an 11-year-old reported to police that she was approached by an unidentified male in a vehicle, at the corner of Alexander Avenue and Squire Hill Road in Montclair. She told police that he offered her a ride due to it being cold outside. When she refused, it was reported that the driver sped off.

The investigation concluded with police determining that it was a misunderstanding after an Uber driver began circling the area looking for a scheduled pickup and inquired if the juvenile was his assigned ride.

"Through investigation it was determined that this incident was a misunderstanding," said Lt. David O'Dowd of the Montclair Police Department.
