MILLBURN, NJ - More than 50 people participated in the Power Networking event organized by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce at La Pergola Restaurant on Essex Street on Wednesday evening.
The event began with time for mingling and networking, with a wine tasting provided by Gary’s Wine & Marketplace, delicious appetizers from La Pergola and live entertainment by local singer-songwriter Anya Parker-Lentz.
Then came the first session of speed-networking, where participants sat at tables and each took turns giving a two-minute “elevator speech” to introduce the others to their companies. In a unique twist, each person also had to draw a business card out of a bag on the table and promise to call and arrange a one-on-one meeting within the next 30 days with the person who’s card they had selected.
After enjoying a fine pasta sampler, everyone changed tables and proceeded on to speed-networking round two.
“This was a great way to meet a lot of new people and make some excellent new business connections,” said Michael Shapiro, president of the Chamber of Commerce. “Participants really seemed to appreciate the structured approach to networking.”
The chamber plans to host a few more events like this in the coming year, and they will be open to chamber members and non-members alike.
