Every Wednesday Matinee Announced for September at Montclair Public Library

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Montclair Public Library(main branch) hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a film series presented in its auditorium. This program screens classic films and, through November 2014, only films listed on the American Film Institute’s (AFI) list of the 100 Greatest Movies will be shown. Below are the science fiction and fantasy films being screened this September, along with their AFI rank:

King Kong (September 3)—Starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot. A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal giant gorilla who takes a shine to their female blonde star. (1933, 100 minutes, B&W, ranked #43)

Frankenstein (September 10)—Starring Colin Clive, Mae Clarke and Boris Karloff. Horror classic in which an obsessed scientist assembles a living being from parts of exhumed corpses. (1931, 70 minutes, B&W, ranked #87)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (September 17)—Starring Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut and Teri Garr. After an encounter with UFOs, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen. (1977, 132 minutes, Color, ranked #64)

2001: A Space Odyssey (September 24)—Starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood and William Sylvester. Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest. (1968, 139 minutes, Color, ranked #22)
