Fabric Art and Quilt Show Returns to Willow Grove Church, March 29

March 24, 2014 at 6:10 PM

The Harvest Quilters of Central New Jersey are back again with the 31st annual quilt and fabric art show, “Sharing the Quilts XXXI, to be held on March 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, 1961 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. The quilt show is always unique in that there is interaction with quilters, instruction and demonstrations as well as information about the history of quilts in America.

Quilts have a language of their own and are often made to commemorate both happy and sad occasions in the lives of families. So another unique element of the “Sharing the Quilts” show, are the story boards which accompany many of the displayed quilts. The story boards tell why or where a quilt was made, who made it and any other information that makes a quilt personal or special.

The Harvest Quilters; sister group, the Needle Niters who meet at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, will also display quilts they have made for charity this year.

Her book on Jane Austen quilts will be available at the show. Gloeggler will be there to sign copies of her book. The book, “Jane Austen Quilts: Inspired by Her Novels,” can be purchased from AQS American Quilter’s Society online. A display of some of the Jane Austen quilts featured in the book, can be viewed at the show.

There will be raffle quilt and several raffle baskets stuffed with fabric. Proceeds from the raffles and profi from the quilt show go to various local charitable organizations and also fund group workshops and meetings throughout the year. Random door prizes are given. This quilt show is child-friendly and youngsters are offered the chance to do a scavenger hunt by finding special motifs on the show quilts.

A tea room is available offering a lunch menu, drinks and snacks. A small group of vendors will offer finished quilts, fabric, notions and quilted items. For more information, call Ann Eelman at 908-755-7653 or visit harvestquilters.com. Admission to the show is $6 for adults and $3 for children 5 through 12. Youngsters under 5 are free.
