FAIR LAWN, NJ - A 59-year-old Fair Lawn man drove into the Maple Avenue TD Bank this morning, which police believe was the result of a medical episode.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., a witness to the incident told police the man behind the wheel of the 2003 Ford Escape was parked in a parking space in front of the bank at 23-40 Maple Avenue when the vehicle abruptly drove forward into the front brick wall of the bank (also striking a metal cigarette disposal that sits in front of the building). The vehicle then reversed back into the parking space before the witness was able to enter the vehicle and put it into park.

When the police arrived, officers found the driver unresponsive. "It is believed the the operator had a medical episode prior to striking the bank," police reported.

The operator was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center by Valley Hospital Ambulance. The bank had no structural damage due to the crash and is still opened for business.
