FAIRFIELD, NJ- The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Samuel Russell (26) of Paterson, N.J. for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on July 22, 2014. On that date, at approximately 11:28 P.M., Officer Sean McCormack was patrolling Route 46 when he observed a 1993 Lexus that was traveling east, allegedly in excess of the posted 50 M.P.H. speed limit. The officer stopped the vehicle and found it being operated by Russell, with two other passengers in the vehicle.

Investigation revealed that Russell had an active arrest warrant issued by the Paterson Municipal Court and also that his license was suspended. When the officer placed him under arrest for the warrant, he allegedly recovered a small quantity of suspected marijuana and rolling papers in his pocket. Further investigation revealed that one of the passengers in the vehicle, identified as Victor Mora (32) of Parsippany, N.J., also had an active arrest warrant issued by the Teaneck Municipal Court. Mora was also placed under arrest. Both were transported to police headquarters.

While at headquarters, Mora posted his own bail for the active warrant. He was then released from custody.

In addition to the criminal charges, Russell was also charged with motor vehicle violations to include speeding, careless driving, operating with a suspended license and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Russell posted his own bail on the active warrant and was released on his own recognizance for the new Fairfield charges with a pending court date of July 30, 2014 in the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(It should be noted that the charges against Russell are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
