NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - West Essex Supervisor of the Arts Vee Popat has announced that bassoonist Timothy Ruszala, a sophomore, and tuba player Brian Gieger, a junior, have successfully auditioned for the New Jersey All-State Band.
This is the first time in almost a decade a student from West Essex has been selected for the All-State Band and the first time since the late 80’s that two people have made it in the same year. Both musicians are from Fairfield.
Ruszala placed first overall for all bassoon players and will play in both the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra and Gieger placed fifth overall for all tuba players and will play in the Symphonic Band. The concert is scheduled for Feb. 22 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
