The South Plainfield community includes many loyal volunteer litter cleanup participants.  Some have been joining in our Spring and Fall Litter Cleanups literally for decades.  If they have ever asked themselves whether they were making a difference in the Borough’s quality of life, the Year 2020 has delivered an answer: Yes.  Under the reign of Covid19, litter has been accumulating and growing undisturbed in many places.  We have not had a volunteer cleanup in eighteen months, and it shows.

The South Plainfield Clean Communities Advisory Board will sponsor a targeted public lands cleanup on Saturday, October 3.  South Clinton Avenue and the surrounding area is a mix of industrial, commercial and open space. Litter often starts in the commercial establishments and accumulates in the natural lands.

Supplies will be distributed in the Highland Woods Nature Reserve parking lot on Sylvania Place from 9 to 9:30 a.m.   The cleanup will run for two hours.  Gloves, trash bags, safety vests and other equipment will be provided. Masks will be available.  Social distancing must be observed.  Volunteers must sign a waiver to be allowed to participate.

Due to Covid19 safety restrictions, preregistration is required.  Call Alice Tempel, the Clean Communities Coordinator, at (908) 226-7621, or e-mail her at atempel@southplainfieldnj.com to register or to request more information.
