The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Parks & Community Renewal are happy to announce that the "Family Flix" summer film series will continue on Tuesday evening, August 17, in Nomahegan Park.
"Family Flix begins at dusk, but come early to the park to enjoy an interesting preview activity at 7:15 p.m. that is fun for the whole family," said Freeholder Vice Chairman Deborah Scanlon, liaison to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. "Bring a blanket or beach chair to claim your spot on the lawn or save a seat in the bleachers - either way, the early birds are sure to like the preview activity in the park before the movie."
"Monsters vs. Aliens" is the feature film on Aug. 17. This 2009 DreamWorks animated science-fiction comedy follows the action-packed adventures of a giant young woman and her monster friends as they defend Earth from an alien invasion. Monsters vs. Aliens will be shown outdoors, free of charge at Nomahegan Park in Cranford. Before the movie, naturalists from Trailside Nature & Science Center will lead a nature stroll in the park to see if evening noises are monsters and aliens or simply bullfrogs and katydids.
The last Family Flix movie and activity for this summer will be Tuesday, August 24 at Nomahegan Park, when Watchung Stable staff members will guide lead-line rides on horses for youngsters before the adventure comedy, "Racing Stripes."
The movie starts at dusk in nice weather only. For more information, call the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal at 908-527-4900. For rain information in the parks call 908-558-4079 after 3:00 p.m.
