My marriage is over. Now what?

By Laurie L. Newmark, Esq. on behalf of Townsend Tomaio and Newmark, LLC

D_I_V_O_R_C_E is not just an old country song. It means a permanent separation.  Making the decision to end your marriage can be incredibly painful but what follows may be even harder.  You separate your home, money and, above all, the future of your children. It can be overwhelming, intimidating and ridden with unforeseen issues. Two steps can make the process easier. Once you have decided to “move on” your first step should be education…YOUR EDUCATION.  Become knowledgeable about your financials and every part of your life and your children’s lives.  Review bank statements, tax returns and other important financial information to understand your family’s needs.  Then, get legal advice as to the process and applicable laws.  Seek out the advice of a knowledgeable family law firm that can navigate you through the divorce process in your local area. Select a firm who understands you, your family and your needs, and makes you feel comfortable while you share your most personal issues.  Make sure the Attorney has knowledge of local procedure and, above all, has the time and resources to devote to your individual case.  This will make the process move more quickly and easily for you and your family.

When Good Enough, Isn't

“Good enough is the death of greatness.”

I fell in love with this quote when I first heard it because it rings so true in sports and in life. Being a competitive athlete it is easy to fall into this trap of making some progress, seeing some success and then getting satisfied. When that feeling starts to sink in think about how many times in the course of a game or season good ...
