FANWOOD, NJ -- "Remarkable Women" was the theme of the Fanwood Council meeting held Monday, March 18, 2019, with proclamations for Women's History month and Girl Scout Week. Individuals honored were:

Mayor for a Day Katie Wilbur, a third grader at McGinn Elementary, was Mayor for a Day and presided with Mayor Colleen Mahr, reading the Open Public Meetings Act at the beginning of the meeting and several other proclamations.
Girl Scouts from Troops 40105 and 40547 presented Girl Scout cookies to the Council and read tributes to Scouting from the podium. It is the 107th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Fanwood and Scotch Plains Scouts sold 53,000 boxes of cookies during this year's drive.
Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, the principal of Union Catholic High School and Grand Marshall of this year's Union County St. Patrick's Day Parade was honored with a proclamation from Mayor Colleen Mahr.
Women of Vision
In honor of Women's History Month, Mayor Mahr honored:
  • Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell, Fanwood's longest serving Council member,
  • McGinn Elementary School Principal Sasha Slocum, and
  • Fanwood SPF High School junior Mallory Banks for creating the annual Rockin' for Autism festival, a daylong rock concert that will be held this year on Sunday, April 28th at LaGrande Park.
Citizens of the Month were Lori and Patrick Carlin, owners of Fanwood Bagel for 25 years. They donate bagels to many worthy causes and events including the annual Community Cleanup and the Rescue Squad on Memorial Day.
