"I’m rally glad to have three more years. I feel like we are moving in the right direction," said McElroy-Barker at a victory party held at Sheelen's Crossing. "I’m very thankful that residents trust the Council and myself to continue working for them. This one feels really good."

Trisha Walsh, a schoolteacher who works with special needs students, won in her first run for office.

"Thank you to all the people that voted," Walsh said. "We need to continue the great work Mayor Mahr and the Council have done for the residents of Fanwood."

Brian Walter, the lone Republican on the ballot, ran a low profile campaign, had not updated his Brian Walter for Fanwood Council Facebook page since 2017, and did not set up a campaign website. Late in the race, he sent three mailers and posted a few campaign signs around the Borough. However, for much of the campaign season, Walter seemed like a candidate in name only.

“I’m incredibly proud and humbled to have had so many Fanwoodians vote for me this year -- almost 400 more than last year," Walter responded to TAPintoSPF's request for a post-election comment. "We are moving forward every day as neighbors to improve a system that we see as flawed. We will continue to prove... that this is not a one party town."
