Father and Son Team Rob and Joe Maistickle Work Together To Change Lives At Get In Shape For Women in Warren

June 15, 2014 at 10:07 PM

WARREN, NJ - Rob Maistickle opened Get in Shape For Women in Warren only a year out of college in March 2010 with his father, Joe Maistickle. About working with his father, Rob says," it's good to have someone to rely on." And they've been working together in various capacities since Rob was in his teens helping Joe in his office cleaning business. When asked what he has learned about business from his father, Rob says his dad taught him to keep learning and tells him ,"you don't know, what you don't know." Due to their success at the Warren location, the pair introduced the concept in Westfield in September 2013.
Rob Maistickle, a former high school and college athlete, knows the importance of proper nutrition and fitness in leading a healthy lifestyle.
Rob, now 26 years old, shattered his vertebra while playing football and was in a body cast for three months.
Maistickle was forced to undergo extensive physical therapy and education about proper nutrition for a healing body. It was during this time that he realized he wanted to use his experience and dedicate his life to helping others realize the potential of their own physical capabilities.

“While I was a high school athlete, much of my life was dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Maistickle. “I wanted the opportunity to share this knowledge with others who are interested in implementing healthier habits into their lives.”
While the injury ended his football career, and college scholarship, Rob switched sports to wrestling. At South Plainfield, known as a recreation and scholastic wrestling powerhouse, Maistickle was captain and most valuable player on his team in 2005.
Rob spent three years of his college career as a wrestler at Rider University and  graduated with a degree in business management.
Since opening , Maistickle has seen many of his clients reach and exceed their personal goals. Some women have hit the 100-pound weight loss mark – one in only 9 months of joining – while other women have found Get In Shape For Women to have other positive impacts on their lives. Some of Maistickle’s clients started as diabetes patients and, since maintaining consistent visits to Get In Shape For Women, are no longer in need of medication.
At Get In Shape For Women, the premise is simple: One personal trainer works with up to four women at a time during each one-hour session consisting of 30 minutes of weight training, 25 minutes of cardio, plus nutrition coaching for a complete training program. The comprehensive branded four-part transformation model, encompassing weight training, cardio, nutrition support and accountability, is focused entirely on results.
Holding clients accountable to someone other than themselves is what sets Get In Shape For Women apart from other personal training and fitness programs often costing two or three times as much.
Personal trainers help clients set an achievable goal and then hold them responsible for reaching it, with weight and body-fat percentage checked every week. “At Get In Shape For Women, we foster a positive environment,” Maistickle continued. “We are with our clients every step of the way."
“I would say we’re very different from most places out there,” said Rob Maistickle.  For one thing, class size never exceeds four women—what Maistickle calls “group personal training.” It allows everyone to get one-on-one attention at an affordable price. And they don't take everyone as a client. You have to be committed and have a goal.
The groups, which meet at regular times for a variety of weight training and cardio workouts, are welcoming. They become friends. And for some people, it’s a support group.
Upon joining, women get a physical assessment as well as a nutritional one.  A personal trainer helps each person create an attainable goal, such as losing weight, increasing strength, getting more energy or feeling healthier.
“The number one goal for most people is health,” Rob Maistickle said.
Once a goal is defined, trainers make it their mission to ensure that goal is reached. When someone hits a bump in the road, Maistickle will help to figure out what the issue is. Is it stress eating? He’ll help them figure out what’s causing the stress. Are they having trouble menu planning? He’ll help them figure out what to eat that week, including portion sizes.
“I get to know these ladies personally. I get to know what makes them tick, and so do my trainers,” said Maistickle. They know how and when to push, and when to take it more slowly.
And if you don’t show up for your regularly scheduled class? Rob is  going to call you.

Tears Are Good, They Let The Sadness Out

January 16, 2017

Jackie Kennedy and Coretta Scott King were our nation’s role models for mourning in the 1960’s and in the decades since. They were praised for their strength and stoicism, their courage and grace, and rightly so. They were great role models for our nation at a time of great unrest and anxiety, but I would say they were not the role models we needed when it came to grieving our ...

Falling by Jane Green

Falling by Jane Green (Berkley, 2016)

Every now and again I just love a mindless romance novel, and I've been a huge fan of Jane Green's since her first book, Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans. Despite being classified as “chick lit,” the character and plot of Jemima J. has stayed with me for sixteen years after first reading it because the story ...
