Federal Air Marshal Hospitalized After Shooting in West Orange


WEST ORANGE, NJ - An unusual shooting in West Orange on April 27 left a federal air marshal hospitalized and several questions unanswered.

According to Essex County Prosecutor's Office Spokesperson Katherine Carter, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a federal air marshal shot himself in the leg in an office building on Rooney Circle. He remains hospitalized at University Hospital in Newark. The injury has been classified as "accidental" by the air marshal's employer, the National Transportation Safety Administration.

It was not known what the air marshal was doing in the office building or whether he was on or off-duty at the time.The Essex County Prosecutor's Office had no further information to offer at this time. The West Orange Police Department referred the Alternative Press to the ECPO and did not provide any details. The story was initially reported by NJ.com.
