SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Lady Raiders (3-3) lost a tough game by the score of 6-0 to a talented Kent Place team, (6-1) on their Senior Day this afternoon. Having moved up a division this year after winning the Blue Division last season, Scotch Plains-Fanwood now faces tougher and more experienced teams.

During the game the Raiders struggled with passing and possession. Meanwhile, Kent Place was all over the ball and took advantage of their opportunities. The visitors kept the ball in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood end for most the game and were able to capitalize from heavy pressure and chances created by penalty corners.

Coach Ally Neidig also said that the score did not show how well the goalies played today, and they did well communicating with the defense. Junior goalie Emilia Saccento played the first half of the game and goalie Gabby Rijo came in the second half of the game.

“Our goalie Emilia had a broken foot to start the season so our freshman goalie Gabby Rijo was put in net immediately” Coach Neidig told TAPintoSPF. “Gabby has improved more and more with every game she plays.”

The Raiders have five seniors who will graduate this year:

  • Olivia Calcaterra,
  • Haley Cino,
  • Abby Conklin,
  • Erica Schug (captain),
  • Allie Serio (captain).

“Since this is a shortened season I think that we have been playing hard and well with how many games we have, and we want to end the season strong” senior captain Allie Serio said.

“We are hoping on Friday we go back to the way we normally play which is passing well, playing aggressive and communicating on the field well” Coach Neidig said. The Raiders look to bounce back after the loss when they play on Friday against Millburn at 4:00 p.m. at Millburn High School.
