WESTFIELD, NJ — The cause of the fire that damaged the Wychwood Gate House Dec. 6 was electrical and accidental, an inside source told The Alternative Press. The Westfield Fire Department could not be reached for comment.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at the historic house, located the corner of East Broad Street and Wychwood Road, by 9 p.m. that night. The single-family home, which was recently sold to a new owner, was vacant at the time. Witnesses said they had seen the neighborhood landmark in flames.
