WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Fire Department responded to a fire on the roof of the GAP building, 207 East Broad Street, at approximately 3:45 p.m. Aug. 16.

“There was a small fire on a rooftop AC unit,” said Battalion Chief James Ryan. “Cranford sent over a tower ladder to assist.”

There were no injuries and there was only minor damage to the air conditioning unit. Parts of Broad and Elm streets were shut down until about 5:45 p.m.

“It was reported quickly because everyone could see it,” said Ryan. “So it was a relatively small fire.”
