SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire that started in a detached garage of two-story home on Cooper Road early this morning.

The flames jumped to the attic of the house and engulfed the back of the residence.  No one was reported injured.

"It started in the garage and then engulfed back of house at about 4:00 a.m. We heard explosions and saw flames shooting in the air,” said a neighbor who viewed the fire and requested anonymity.  “We are fortunate that the winds weren’t blowing.  There were fire trucks all along the block.  It was scary.”
