RANDOLPH, NJ - On September 28, 2013 at the Morris Habitat for Humanity held its first annual Hammer for Habitat event at their facilities on South Salem Street in Randolph, The event brought community members together to help Morris Habitat build walls for stronger communities, new friendships, hope, and a home!
Sponsors, teams, families and individuals were able to wrote write messages and best wishes on wooden studs for families whose homes will be built with the wood.
Over 150 people attended to the event and over $15,000 was raised toward building affordable homes.
Sponsors for the event include Investor’s Bank, as the main event sponsor; Longo Electronics and North Central Jersey Association of Realtors as the Build a Wall Sponsors. Madison Affordable Housing Corporation as the Hammer Sponsor; Lakeland Bank as the Bucket of Nails Sponsor; Saint Clare’s Health System as the Build an Appetite Sponsor; and Home Depot donated bird house kits for kids to build.
Teams that came out to build included representatives from Investor’s Bank, North Jersey Association of Realtors, the New Jersey Martial Arts Academy from Randolph, Dover’s Trinity Lutheran Youth Group, the Hike Morristown Meet-up Group, Temple Shalom in Succasunna, and a large group of student volunteers from St. Judes and St. Elizabeth’s in Mt. Olive.
While teams worked at three different build stations, those waiting were able to enjoy food, drinks, and music and children were kept busy building bird houses. Thanks to the many Morris Habitat volunteers who kept the whole day running smoothly.

Operated by Morris Habitat for Humanity, the ReStore sells donated building supplies and furnishings at huge savings off normal retail costs. Proceeds from the store have funded the construction of 8 houses since 2007 and kept more than 3,000 tons of material out of landfills.
