BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerville Elks, Boy Scouts, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, John Basilone Parade Committee and the Bridgewater Creative Arts Committee are sponsoring the first Flag Day Festival at Duke Island Park June 14.
The event will be held at the park on Old York Road from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This is the first Flag Day event, and it will feature live music, food vendors, a display of historic military vehicles and flag folding demonstrations. There will also be arts and crafts, collections for soldiers and performances by local performers.
"The American Flag is a symbol around the world of freedom and opportunity, of hope and righteousness, and of safety and of friendship," said Council President Matthew Moench. "In tough times, American turn to the flag for a sign of solidarity, hope and strength. Our allies around the world know that they can rely upon Americans to come to their aid, and our enemies, foreign and domestic, know that the might of the American people stands ready to defend our freedoms and to protect our way of life."
"I am asking our residents to join with me in flying their flags from June 14, Flag Day, through July 4, in honor of our nation and our flag," he added. "We are one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, and I ask that you join with me and proudly display our flag."
