Monica Kaden, MBA, ASA, recently presented Medical Practice Valuation: A Primer for Lawyers to the attorneys at Fox Rothschild LLP in Roseland, NJ.
The purpose of the presentation was to educate divorce attorneys, estate and gift tax attorneys and litigators in medical valuation issues. Ms. Kaden highlighted the primary issues impacting the health care industry, including Medicare provider fees and the Affordable Care Act passed in March 2010. The appropriate methodologies to be used in valuing medical practices and other health care entities was discussed, as well as the subtle differences between valuing medical practices as compared to other businesses.
Ms. Kaden is a Principal at Fischer Barr & Wissinger LLC in Parsippany, NJ. She started her career at a Big Four CPA firm in the corporate finance group performing valuations primarily for purchase price allocations associated with acquisitions, and valuing intangible assets. She has worked for large NJ accounting firms for the last sixteen years specializing in business valuation and litigation support.
Monica Kaden is an accredited senior appraiser (“ASA”) with the American Society of Appraisers. She specializes in valuations of small to medium sized businesses, typically for matrimonial and shareholder litigation cases, estate and gift tax valuations, selling and buying business interests, and mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Kaden has performed lost profits analyses and has testified as an expert witness in business valuation and shareholder disputes. Ms. Kaden has expertise in valuing medical and dental practices and wrote an article published in M.D. News Magazine titled “Medical Practice Valuation,” published in May 2006. She also wrote an article “Now Is The Time to Gift” published in the Real Estate Journal, Mid Atlantic region, February 2009 regarding gift tax valuations.
Ms. Kaden is a graduate of Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Arts and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a Master of Business Administration. She received her accreditation as an accredited senior appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers in 2005, and was recertified in 2010. Ms. Kaden is presently a Candidate Certified Divorce Financial Analyst to assist clients and attorneys in understanding how the financial decisions made in the divorce process impacts the clients’ financial future based on certain assumptions.
