JERSEY CITY, NJ - Mayor Steven Fulop is 20 one America’s fittest mayors, according to Health Fitness Revolution (HFR). HFR annually recognizes politicians who live a healthy lifestyle while also promoting physical activities in their communities.
In making their determination, HFR noted that Fulop, who ranked in the top 10 in 2019, has completed two and a half Ironmans, something that he noted was one of the hardest tasks he has taken part in because of both the physical and mental endurance to complete it.
Fulop, who also completed the 2012 NYC Marathon, believes that being healthy and active can teach extreme discipline, a tool needed in order to be successful. He also created an adult fitness class to help encourage the adults of Jersey City to become fit and then pass the mentality onto their children.
While he readily admits that he was not always into fitness, Fulop said that he learned a lot after joining the U.S. Marines – including to make most of every moment – which includes physical fitness. He is known for his early morning workouts, at 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. and is an avid jogger and bicycle rider.
“I try to be a healthy person and do my best to make sure that it is part of my life,” Fulop told TAPinto Jersey City this week. “I've tried to have it carry over to part of my job as well as we have invested more in this than ever before.”
