Fit to be Tried

The two guidelines I try to follow when buying new clothes are to choose the right color and watch the fit. A good color brings out the best in you and makes you feel good, and that’s essential.  We can all wear color as long as it’s the right shade for our skin tone.  And equally important but often overlooked is a really good fit.  Nothing speaks of high style and luxury, more than how well something fits.

Look for pieces with a bit of stretch and/or lycra. These are your friends!  This avoids pulling and pinching and maintains a good fit.  And when possible find a good tailor, because simple alterations can make all the difference, and are often inexpensive.  For instance, check to see that a jacket fits well in the arms, and the body.  If you love it, and it’s ‘almost right,’ a tailor can take it in at the right places.  And a good jacket is versatile for all body sizes and shapes. It’s a great staple for your wardrobe.  As for slacks, we tend to go fuller than we need to.  I think we imagine that we’re larger than we actually are.  It’s better to find a pair that is fitted, without extra material.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised wearing the right fitting pieces.  You’ll create your own high style for your every day life.
