SUMMIT, NJ - Designing individualized fitness and wellness programs tailored to match your daily life, then providing personalized attention in a boutique setting, Wellness Studio M has opened in the heart of downtown Summit.
Wellness Studio M's client programs are based on Functional Training that, unlike other types of exercise, focuses on strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and lower back by mimicking the movements your body performs every day. Functional Training provides a foundation for any and all bodies and fitness regimes by challenging the entire body with natural movements.
Wellness Studio M helps their clients achieve their goals by customizing Functional Training programs to meet their needs. Programs include effective movement patterns like pushing, pulling, squatting, and rotating to improve cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular power, muscular strength and flexibility. Instead of using traditional machines, they utilize fitness tools such as ropes, sand bags, kettle bells, rings, straps, bands and medicine balls, enabling more natural and effective more movement.
“Since I’ve been working out with Maria I feel absolutely terrific, I’m much more confident, I’m much more able to do things that I would do in my normal live," said Summit resident Liz Peck. "I feel much stronger and healthier. I make better choices about what I eat because I know of the work that I’ve put in working with her. It has created a whole new lifestyle for my family and me."
Studio Wellness M incorporates and embodies the knowledge and passion brought to the endeavor by its owner, Summit resident Maria Alexander. Maria founded Wellness Studio M with the mission of providing her clients – and the community – with a place to gain the motivation, confidence, and power needed to live a happy and healthy life.
"I came to Summit 20 years ago to buy a car and just fell in love with it," said Alexander. "It is a dream to have my business in a community that I care so much about."
Raised from humble beginnings in Eastern Europe, most of Alexander's early life was spent working hard on her family’s farm. Despite facing insurmountable adversity, Alexander worked toward pursuing her education, starting a career on Wall Street after receiving a Bachelors of Science in Finance. It was not until years later she realized what she really wanted to do; what she was truly passionate about.
She committed herself to the fitness industry; teaching group classes at different locations, working personally with clients, and presenting lectures about health and wellness at various health club locations. Not only has she committed herself physically, but educationally as well. Since entering the fitness industry, she completed a Masters degree in Exercise Science from Montclair State University and is continuing her education and research.
“I am an exercise physiologist and personal trainer, but I try to be more than that," explains Alexander. "I am a support system, a motivator, and the type of person that will keep you going no matter what and, when you think that you can’t do it anymore, I will pick you up. Because sometimes, that’s what people need."
Wellness Studio M offers personal training and semi-private classes consisting of no more than four individuals. Each session consists of a warm-up, work-out, and cool down / stretch, and includes cardio / metabolic, strength, balance, and reduction elements.
Clients are a variety of all ages, men, women, young teens and elderly couples; they all come to the studio to achieve their fitness and health goals. ""You feel stronger, more active, and younger," said Alexander. "Once you try it, you know you can do it. I don’t just teach fitness, I teach how to live a happy and healthy life. I am committed to providing each client with the motivation, confidence, and power they need in their workouts and everyday life.”
