Former Berkeley Heights Fire Chief Robert Mazuco Dies at Age 88


BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Former Berkeley Heights Fire Chief Robert Mazuco, 88, died at Overlook Hospital on Sunday, March 23.

Robert was born and raised in Summit, and had lived in Berkeley Heights for 65 years. He co-owned and operated Premium Plastics in Metuchen, N.J. He worked as a handyman in the local area until a few years ago, most recently, held the position of supervisor. 

Robert was a very active member of the Mount Carmel Society, and a dedicated volunteer for the Berkeley Heights Fire Department for over 63 years. He served as fire chief from 1971 to 1973.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (nee Perillo), and is survived by his loving children, Barbara Mazuco of Berkeley Heights, Bernie and Roxanne Mazuco of Delaware, Robert Mazuco Jr. of Berkeley Heights, and Donna Mazuco of Freehold, N.J.; cherished grandfather of Robert, Michael, and Amanda; great-grandfather of Abigail, Robert John Honey IV, Ryan, and Dylan; dear brother of Betty Rust of Pennsylvania, and the late Caroline Pringle, George, William, Louise Pheasant, and Nicolas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at  the Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, N.J. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, March 26, beginning in the funeral home at 9 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Little Flower Church, 310 Plainfield Avenue, Berkeley Heights. Interment is in St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung, N.J.
