As someone who moved to South Plainfield in the 1950s, I’ve seen political figures of both parties come and go, and I’ve had the chance to see about a dozen mayors in action. With that experience in mind, I can truly say that Matt Anesh is among the best, if not the best.
Matt is truly a hometown mayor. I can’t recall someone who’s worked so hard to put his stamp on South Plainfield. He’s getting things done for the town like no other mayor I’ve seen. For example, the new library addition is on its way to becoming a reality, the truck route got DOT approval after two decades of inaction, and in one of the best moves I’ve seen in a long time, Matt and his team were able to give the boot to Liquid Assets. I can only imagine how happy the people in the New Market Avenue area are to see the doors on that establishment close for good.
Matt has also done a solid job keeping the town’s finances in order. As the town’s former CFO and a long-ago councilman, I can vouch for the job he’s doing, with this year’s no-tax-increase budget a testament to his careful approach to budgeting.
These things are important. But there is one thing that I think makes a difference more than all of them. Matt’s worked hard to bring back the hometown feeling that I sometimes thought South Plainfield was losing. Whether it’s cutting ribbons for new businesses, sitting in a dunk tank to help raise money for a good cause, or reading to kids at the library, Matt reminds everyone what a great place South Plainfield is to call home.
Matt Anesh is OUR mayor. Let’s keep it that way in November.
