Former Mayor and Councilman Victor Sordillo Meets Man who Discovered Titanic
CHICAGO - Don't worry, Warren isn't sinking.
Councilman Victor Sordillo met Robert Ballard at a dinner Tuesday night May 6 in Chicago. Ballard is famous as the discoverer of the Titanic in 1985. He also discovered the Yorktown, the Bismarck and JFK P.T. 109 battleships. A formal Navy officer and college professor, he has had an extremely rich career.
Sordillo heard Ballard give a speech at the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) annual meeting. Sordillo is a corporate member of UL.
Sordillo stated that Ballard is not only a talented scientist but a gifted speaker. Ballard narrated how he convinced the Navy to fund an expedition to uncover two lost nuclear submarines disguised as a search for the Titanic. And then actually found the Titanic during the bogus search for it.
Coincidently, Mayor Gary DiNardo worked with Robert Ballard at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the 1970's.
