MONTVILLE, NJ – Former Montville Township High School English teacher Jack Lynch had a devastating fire in his full-time recreational vehicle residence in February which dealt an overwhelming blow. It was determined that his insurance will cover his mortgage and some personal belongings, leaving Lynch without a home and without the funds to help him bounce back financially from the fire.

On Thursday, Lynch agreed to let friend and former colleague Kurt Kilanowski start a GoFundMe page for him.

“Within 24 hours, we reached our first goal of $25,000,” Kilanowski said. That goal has been surpassed and there are currently 351 donors who have given more than $36,000.

“It’s a little overwhelming to put into words,” Kilanowski said. “When he contacted us about his home, he wrote, ‘My rig went up in flames – I’ve lost everything – but we need to pray for [a colleage] who lost his wife yesterday.’ That’s his perspective – immediately thinking about someone else who is more in need than he is. That’s Jack. That’s his faith and his life philosophy. When you read the GoFundMe comments, he has made a huge impact with many of the people who have donated and commented.”

“It is during times like this, that my brother and I truly see the impact our dad has made on so many lives!” Lynch’s daughter Caitlin wrote on the GoFundMe page.

The idea to travel began with his wife’s death in 2011, when Lynch retired and purchased the RV as his sole abode, according to FoxNews. He has traveled more than 100,000 miles.

“Everyone has been so generous, but Jack needs more help,” Kilanowski said. “He taught for 45 years, and 25 in Montville alone. Jack is a special man with an incredible life story. He has put so many of us on the road to success; together, I hope we can put him back on the road!”
