Former North Plainfield Recreation Director Arrested in Middlesex County for Sexual Assault

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Christopher Tarver of Jackson was arrested by officers of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday and charged with various counts of sexual assault of a child. 

None of the alleged assaults occurred in North Plainfield, but the Middlesex County Prosecutor says that they occurred between 2010 and 2012 in Edison and Dunellen. At that time, Tarver was employed as the North Plainfield Recreation Director. He was first hired in 2008, and left the borough in the winter of 2013.

When asked if the investigation included more potential assaults  spolesman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office James O'Neill said they were not commenting beyond a published media release.

North Plainfield Chief of Police William Parenti said that his department is not aware of any allegations or incidents in North Plainfield.

According to Tarver’s LinkedIn profile he has been the executive director of the Monmouth Power Sports Club, a traveling basketball team, since 1995.  The alleged victim, according to the prosecutor’s office release, was a player on that team.

At the same time he was employed in North Plainfield, Tarver was also the recreation director in Dunellen since 2004 and was the basketball coach for Middlesex County College until March, 2014.
