BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - Four candidates have filed to be listed on the November 4 ballot for the three three-year seats up for election this year on the Bernards Township Board of Education. But no matter who wins, there will be some new faces on the school board starting next year.
School Board Members Priti Shah and Linda Wooldridge filed to seek re-election by Monday's deadline for school board candidates. The list was compiled by Somerset County, since candidates were required to file petitions for election at the county clerk's office this year.
Those two incumbents will face competition from two newcomers, John Fry and Michael Storms, in seeking the three full terms that would begin in January 2015.
But Board Member Susan McGowan, who formerly was president of the school board, did not file to seek re-election.
Two board members appointed earlier to fill vacancies created by resignations in the past year filed to seek election to the remainder of those unexpired terms. Those candidates will not face competition on the ballot.
Karen J. Gray, just appointed last week to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Board Member Christopher Viereck, filed to seek the last two year's of Viereck's unexpired term.
Karen Richman, appointed earlier this year to fulfill the final year of Board Member Audrey Sherwyn's term, is seeking election to the last year of that spot on the school board.
