Fourth of July Activities Rescheduled for Saturday in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (UPDATE) – The village has rescheduled its Fourth of July festivities for Saturday due to the weather forecast.

A day of family fun is planned in and around the Meadowland Park and the Community Pool.

11 a.m.–1 p.m. Field Events/Races at Cameron Field Near the Playground

Medals for all who compete in the fun and games! Prizes for winners in each age group; 11 .a.m-noon for ages 3-6
and noon-1 p.m. for ages 7-12. To register,send an email with subject line “Races” to including the participant’s name and age.

Noon-4 p.m. Slide and Bouncy House at Cameron Field Near the Pool Entrance

This year the SO Parking Authority is sponsoring a Free Sports-Themed Slide and Bouncy House. Have a Safe and Happy July 4th Holiday from SOPA!

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Model Boat Exhibit at the Duck Pond

The South Orange Seaport Society will display model boats at the Duck Pond


The pool will be open on the Fourth of July to ALL South Orange residents from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Proof of residency (Recreation & Cultural Affairs I.D. Badge, driver’s license or utility bill) will be required at the gate. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Special afternoon events for all!

Noon-4 p.m. Photo Booth. Have photos taken with friends and family throughout the afternoon.

Noon-3 p.m. Sand art for kids. Artwork to take home and remember the day!

Second Annual Ping Pong Tournament!

Single elimination–games to 11–must win by 2 or first player to 21 points– pairings drawn at random before event–prize for each age group. To register, send an email with subject line “Ping Pong” to including the participant’s name and age. First come-first served.

Noon start time for ages 12 and under (pairings drawn at random before event); 1:30 p.m. start time for ages 13 and over (pairings drawn at random before event).

3:15 p.m. South Orange’s Third Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest!

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age group (15 and Under / 16 and Over). To register, send an email with subject line: “Hot Dogs” to including participant’s name and age.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the Snack Bar.
