Franklin Resident Charged with Killing Man in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A 26-year-old Franklin man was in custody today on charges of fatally shooting another man in New Brunswick on June 30 and then dumping the body in a wooded area in Franklin Township.

Abubakaar “Diddy” King was arrested Thursday and charged with murder for the killing of Darren Fordham Jr., who was also 26, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said in a joint statement with Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson.

They said Fordham's body was found in a wooded are near Phillips Road and Pine Grove School in Franklin on July 1.

Fordham had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the prosecutors said.

New Brunswick police determined Fordham was killed the previous day, June 30, about a mile away in the Hamilton Garden Apartments at 300 Hamilton St., New Brunswick.

King is also charged with the second degree crimes of desecrating human remains, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and hindering his apprehension in the second degree, as well as fourth degree tampering with evidence.

The prosecutors, who issued the statement with New Brunswick police Director Anthony Caputo, gave no details about a motive for the shooting or how Fordham’s body was transported from the apartment complex to the wooded area in Franklin or how the body was found.

King is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.

A murder charged carries a maximum penalty of 30 years to life in prison.
